With the ongoing concerns of COVID-19, Richland Newhope was not able to celebrate March Awareness in the traditional manner last month.
One of this year’s awareness activities included a book distribution to celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month with the local schools. Newhope distributed a book about inclusion to all public and private 1st -grade students in Richland County. With the help from Scholastic, Richland County Youth and Family Council, and United Way’s Big Red Bookshelf, Newhope was able to order and distribute 1,400 copies of the book Strictly No Elephants written by Lisa Mantchev. On Thursday, the Richland County Commissioners signed a proclamation declaring March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
Several representatives from Richland Newhope/Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities and RNI, Inc. were in attendance for the proclamation, which took place before the Commissioner’s regular Thursday meeting. Richland Newhope values and truly appreciates the on-going support received from the Richland County Commissioners.
Statewide and across the nation, organizations devoted to serving individuals with developmental disabilities are holding special events to raise public awareness of the many abilities people have, regardless of their disability. More…
Richland Newhope/Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities is now seeking nominations for its CARE awards.
CARE stands for Compassion, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence. The award categories are Direct Support Professional, Self-Advocate, and Community Partner.

Mike Ziegelhofer and Regina F. Jefferson are the newest members of the Richland Newhope/Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Mike and Regina, appointed by the Richland County Commissioners, took the oath of office at the Commissioner’s office on Thursday, January 7. They both have the opportunity to serve on the board for up to three 4-year terms.
They were sworn in by Commissioner Darrell Banks. More…
The Special Olympics Ohio Summer Games have been canceled, but that didn’t stop the Mansfield Police Department from having their annual Torch Run to support the athletes in Richland County.
The Torch Run was held last Friday, June 19. About a dozen of Mansfield’s police officers and Richland Newhope staff started the Torch Run at The Mansfield Art Center and ended at the Fraternal Order of Police Memorial at the southeast corner of the square downtown. More…

Ivan Brewer is a super smart and very spirited two-and-a-half-year-old little boy. Like all boys, he loves trucks, dinosaurs, and his new swing set. Ivan, his little brother Joshua, and his parents Josh and Ivy Brewer are a part of Richland Newhope’s Early Intervention Program.
As an Early Intervention Specialist, I typically visit Ivan both in his home and in his Early Head Start classroom to address his expressive language and motor delays. I provide Ivan,his family, and his teachers with fun ways to build Ivan’s strength, balance, and coordination and to increase his expressive communication. More…
Tera Myers is the newest member of the Richland Newhope/Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Tera, who was appointed by the Richland County Commissioners, took the oath of office at the Commissioner’s office on Tuesday. She has the opportunity to serve on the board for up to three 4-year terms.
