Do you have an interest in launching a community garden project? Or, if you are already involved in such an effort, would you like to expand or financially support the garden you operate?

An opportunity to obtain modest financial assistance in achieving those objectives is now available through the NECIC Community Garden Grants.

The purpose of the Community Garden Small Grant program is to support residents and organizations who will start and/or expand a community garden in Mansfield or elsewhere in Richland County. These grants, up to $300, are designed to:

  • Connect neighbors and share best gardening practices
  • Increase fresh food access and encourage residents to eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Improve community health and increase volunteerism
  • Expand opportunities for recreation, learning, art and cultural gatherings in the garden
  • Repurpose and beautify blighted or vacant community space

The application deadline is April 12. Some work is involved in preparing your submission, including obtaining owner permission and providing a photo, so it is best to begin work as soon as possible.

Complete information and on online application form can be found at this location online.
