It was a momentous occasion in Shelby as community members and leaders gathered on Wednesday evening for the Ribbon Cutting ceremony of the new Black Fork Commons plaza.

The event was a collaborative effort involving the Shelby Community Improvement Corporation, Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development, State Representative Marilyn John, The Shelby Foundation, and the people of Shelby. The plaza is envisioned as a hub for community gatherings, collaborations, and nurturing future dreamers.

A year ago, the project and the entire streetscape was well under way; here is our story from October 2023.

The Power of Collaboration

The Black Fork Commons plaza is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together. The Shelby Community Improvement Corporation worked closely with various organizations and individuals to turn this vision into a reality. State Representative Marilyn John and The Shelby Foundation were among the key players who believed in the project and contributed to its fruition.

An Evening to Remember

The grand opening was not just a formal event but a celebration of community spirit. The evening featured a lineup of speakers, donor spotlights, and special recognitions. An invocation set the tone for the event, followed by a lavish hors d’oeuvre buffet. Guests also enjoyed popcorn, apple cider, and mocktails. Adding a musical touch to the festivities was a live performance by CONNE.

A Hub for Tomorrow’s Dreamers

Black Fork Commons is more than just a plaza; it’s a space designed to nurture tomorrow’s dreams and dreamers. It aims to be a gathering place where people can collaborate, share ideas, and build a stronger community. The plaza is expected to host various events and activities that will engage residents and contribute to the cultural fabric of Shelby.
