Special to 1812Blockhouse

The Renaissance Theatre will host the first of its three Teddy Bear Concerts of the 2023-24 Mechanics Bank Education Series on Saturday, October 28 at 2:30 PM. “The Spooky Old House” concert will be held in the Community Room at  the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library’s Main Location, located at 43 West Third Street, in Downtown Mansfield.

Considered an annual fall family tradition, the performance titled “The Spooky Old House” features a humorous Halloween story, brought to life by Artistic Director Michael Thomas in an engaging musical adaptation that features audience participation, interactive storytelling with local actors, and live musicians from the Mansfield Symphony.

With audience members sitting alongside the performers, and geared to children ages 2 through 10, each Teddy Bear concert offers an interactive element as well as a relaxed environment. Small audience sizes, lights up, and low sound levels, allow audience members with autism and other sensory-sensitivities to be accommodated at this performance.

An important part of the Ren’s educational and family programming, Teddy Bear concerts are set up to allow children an up-close experience with symphonic instruments, live acting, and basic musical concepts. To provide the most engaging performance possible, the Teddy Bear series can accommodate a limited number of concert-goers and their favorite teddy bears, so seats fill quickly.

Tickets are just $5 for “The Spooky Old House,” thanks to additional generous support from Nationwide Children’s, The Ohio Arts Council, and from Sharon Granter, in memory of her late husband, Don. To purchase tickets, visit the Renaissance Theatre website at www.rentickets.org or stop by the box office at 138 Park Avenue West in Mansfield. For inquiries, please call 419.522.2726.
