Special to 1812Blockhouse
The Mansfield Symphony opens its season this Saturday, September 18 at 8:00 PM with “Harmony in Nature,” a brand new, hybrid concert that will be performed onstage at the Renaissance Theatre and simultaneously streamed outside to the Ren Backlot for patrons to enjoy under the stars.
The Harmony in Nature concert will be a welcome new experience for music lovers as the symphony performs Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2, accompanied by masterful projections of beautiful landscapes from around the world.
Also featured in the concert is Jessie Montgomery’s Banner, a rhapsody on the theme of the Star-Spangled Banner. “Many composers would have been wary of a commission to write a tribute to the 200th anniversary of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’. Ms. Montgomery readily accepted the challenge. Writing an urgent, inventive piece titled ‘Banner’, she daringly transforms the anthem, folding it into a teaming score to create a musical melting pot,” said The New York Times.
The Mansfield Symphony’s opening concert is a tribute to our country, the beauty it holds, the struggles we have overcome and those still to be conquered.
“This concert is perfect for those who have never experienced the symphony before, and people who have enjoyed the symphony their entire lives,” said Ryan Shreve, Renaissance Marketing Manager.
“The Renaissance is innovating in a big way, with a serious vision for creating art in new ways in the Mansfield community. Through this, we’ve been able to share our art worldwide with at-home streaming options for our performances, and the symphony is the latest piece of that.”
After the concert this weekend, the Mansfield Symphony’s Harmony in Nature performance will be available for at-home streaming from September 21 through October 21, 2021.
