The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is hosting open house hours this week to introduce its new Executive Director, who is eager to meet the community. This is an excellent opportunity to explore the unique Treehouse Classroom, crafted by the renowned Treehouse Masters, and connect with the passionate individuals leading the sanctuary’s conservation efforts.

The new Director, Julie Schwartz, brings a wealth of experience and a deep love for nature to her role. Having been involved with the Ohio Bird Sanctuary since 2016 as a naturalist and a former board member, Schwartz has dedicated herself to the preservation of avian species and the education of young minds about the wonders of the natural world. Her academic background includes bachelor’s degrees in biology and education from the University of Toledo, as well as a master’s degree in educational leadership from The Ohio State University.

Schwartz’s career has been marked by her commitment to fostering connections between young people and nature. Initially, she served as a biology teacher and assistant principal. Driven by her passion, Schwartz joined the staff at the Sanctuary as a teaching naturalist and youth programming coordinator from 2016 to 2018. For the past five years, she has held the position of Head of School at Discovery School in Mansfield, where she continued to inspire young minds and cultivate a love for the environment.

Assuming her role as Director on July 1, Schwartz aims to further enhance the sanctuary’s mission of bird conservation and environmental education. As an advocate for experiential learning and hands-on engagement, she plans to introduce new initiatives to engage visitors of all ages in meaningful ways. By attending the open house hours, you’ll have the chance to meet Schwartz personally and learn more about her vision for the Ohio Bird Sanctuary.

The Treehouse Classroom, a remarkable structure crafted by the talented Treehouse Masters, will serve as the venue for the open house hours. This captivating space provides a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in nature while gaining knowledge about Ohio’s bird species and their habitats. Open house hours with the Director will be held on Tuesday, July 11, and Thursday, July 13, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Whether you’ve always wanted to experience the Treehouse Classroom or simply wish to connect with the new Director, these dedicated hours are the perfect chance to do so.

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is located at 3774 Orweiler Road, offering convenient access for nature enthusiasts in the area. The sanctuary is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Tuesday to Saturday, and from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sundays. Admission fees are $5 for adults, $3 for children between the ages of 3 and 15, and veterans. However, sanctuary members and children under the age of 3 can enjoy free admission.
