Dining in downtown Mansfield has been generating statewide attention as of late.

614now.com, a Columbus-based lifestyle and business publication that shares the latest about brands and events in the metro area, recently turned their attention a bit further to the north.

To Mansfield, in fact.

In a post entitled “Around Ohio: New upscale restaurant opens – inside a previously undiscovered sandstone cavern,” writer Jack McLaughlin profiled the new Prohibition at the Caverns, a part of Hudson & Essex at the corner of Fourth and Diamond downtown.

The article (which can be read here) begins, “The Columbus food scene has experienced everything from donut trees to bagel-flavored ice cream in the last year, but one new Mansfield restaurant has all of these gimmicks beat.”

Prohibition at the Caverns has a new website which can be accessed here. Reservations can be made on its home page.

As that site shares, these underground caves were originally constructed between 1850 and 1865 to provide a climate-controlled environment for German brewers to ferment their lager beer using ice. The caverns were rediscovered during the construction of Hudson and Essex, and were transformed into a unique fine dining experience by Rick Taylor. After extensive restoration efforts, the Caverns are now one of the top dining destinations in North Central Ohio.
