New freshmen arriving this fall at The Ohio State University at Mansfield, like their counterparts across the OSU system, will be paying more for tuition, room and board.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is that new rate will be locked in for the next four years, making the Class of 2026 the seventh in a row to have that kind of guarantee.

The increase is pegged at 4.6%, which translates into a $549 annual change from last year’s rate. For non-resident students, that increase amounts to $1,703. The rate at regional campuses, including Mansfield, will be $8,944 for in-state tuition and fees, up from $8,562.

The change did not receive unanimous praise from all quarters. In a Friday tweet, Governor DeWine shared the following:

The Ohio State Twitter account does not reflect a response to the Governor’s statement.

Among other actions taken by the Board, the appointment of Norman Jones as the new Dean of Undergraduate Education was approved. Jones was most recently Dean at The Ohio State University at Mansfield, so he will be taking an awareness of regional campus challenges and opportunities to Columbus.
