It has been the subject of speculative comments on Facebook over the last few weeks.

This week, it became official. Many sources are reporting that the Ontario location of national retailer Bed, Bath & Beyond will be shutting its doors before the end of February.

Going out of business sales have already begun at the 2259 Walker Lake Road store.

The chain is in the process of closing at least 200 locations across the country in an overall plan that includes remodeling 450 others and concentrating increasingly on its ecommerce platform. Ecommerce has been cited as one of the leading factors for the decline in volume giving rise to the closure decision.

Of the 37 Bed, Bath & Beyond stores closing in this round, the Ontario store is the only Ohio operation included. Seven are in California, and another five in Texas.

The chain was founded 51 years ago in New Jersey. It reached $1 billion in annual sales back in 1999.
