While countywide COVID infection numbers continue to grow recently, the number of cases in Richland County schools and nursing facilities has decreased over the last month.

As reported by the Ohio Department of Health on Wednesday, the number of student and staff cases has seen a substantial decrease in the last six weeks. 

A total of 70 new COVID cases were identified last week in Richland County Schools — of those, 54 were new student cases and 16 were reported for school staff positions.

The nine districts or buildings reporting infections were as follows (first number represents student cases, and then staff cases):

  • Clear Fork – 16, 5
  • Cypress High School – 2, 0
  • Discovery School – 1, 0
  • Lexington – 6, 2
  • Madison – 5, 3
  • Mansfield City -16, 4
  • Ontario – 3, 1
  • Plymouth-Shiloh – 3, 0
  • Temple Christian – 2, 1

In our last reporting of school cases on October 8, that total number stood at 125, downtown from over 250 the week before.

Among the county’s nursing homes and assisted living facilities, there were a total of 8 residents and 11 staff member infections reported in six facilities. Those were (first number represents resident cases, and then staff cases):

  • Country Meadow – 3, 7
  • Liberty Nursing – 0, 1
  • Mansfield Memorial – 1, 0
  • Mansfield Place – 0, 2
  • Ontario Pointe – 0, 1
  • The Waterford at Mansfield – 4, 0
