What’s hundreds of miles in length, takes place on four days in March, and can best be done this time of year?

It’s the 2021 Ohio Maple Madness Driving Tour, brought to you by the Ohio Maple Producers Association.

The event takes place on March 6 & 7 and 13 & 14 at venues all across the Buckeye State. Many of the locations are in the counties of central Ohio and neighboring areas, although some will take place in all four corners of Ohio.

Did you know that it takes approximately 40 to 50 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup?

Nearly 40 sugar houses will be open with demonstrations and, in some places, samples for you to try. Some other sites on the Tour require pre-registration to limit crowds during the COVID pandemic.

Locally, Dolce’s Sugar Shack is a stop on the Tour on March 6 and March 13. While there, you can enjoy watching horse-drawn sleds carrying sap through the woods, watch tapping demonstrations, and enjoy samples of maple products. Top off your visit with a meal of pancakes and maple syrup.

Dolce’s is located at 2550 Crider Road, Mansfield. Call 419-589-6285 for more information.

Visit the Sugar Store for maple products, including maple candy and more!

The fun takes place between 10 AM and 5 PM unless otherwise noted in the Tour booklet, which identifies participating locations and what’s on offer in each. It can be found here. A map of Tour sites is here.
