Many if not most of those currently involved with researching family history have taken to the Internet. Some use sites and apps to organize information — names, dates, etc. — while many have used online tools to connect with other researchers and access millions of records which have been indexed. In the 21s century, that has expanded to the use of DNA to make discoveries.

As the home of the Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS) and Library, Richland County is home to many of these researchers. Once a year, they join other Ohio and Midwestern history sleuths in an annual conference that features speakers on the latest techniques and tools for genealogical research.

This year, the entire event is going virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be OGS’ first-ever online OGS Annual Conference. And, while the fun of in-person interaction might be missing, participants will likely turn up from around the country and the world.

All the more reason to register as soon as possible! Registration is now open for the Conference, the theme of which is “Bringin’ it Home.”

As shared by OGS President Dot Martin, “[T]he Conference Committee has made every effort to make your conference experience feel as “in person” as possible. There will be opportunities to listen to and interact with well known speakers on a range of subjects that will interest you and, hopefully, help you in moving your research forward.”

The event runs from Wednesday, April 14 through Saturday, April 17. Dozens of instructive sessions are featured throughout; descriptions can be found in the Registration Booklet, which can be found here. Online registration is here, and more information is available here.
