As we shared last Thursday, Richland County found itself all alone in the “Purple” Level of the Ohio Public Health Advisory System after numbers were released by the State of Ohio.

Although placed in the most serious level, there was some indication that the number of COVID-19 cases and their impact have recently begun to level off.

This conclusion is buttressed by the fact that the number of students and staff in Richland County Schools testing positive for the COVID-19 virus fell for the first time in three weeks.

Fgures released through the State of Ohio’s Coronavirus Dashboard revealed that there were 51 new cases reported in the previous seven days. The week before, that figure stood at 85; which was itself an increase from 77 the week before.

School districts and private schools reporting cases this week included the following:

  • Clear Fork — 1 staff
  • Cypress High School — 1 student, 1 staff
  • Lexington — 4 students, 3 staff
  • Lucas — 1 student, 2 staff
  • Madison — 2 students, 3 staff
  • Mansfield Christian — 5 students, 3 staff
  • Mansfield City — 2 students, 7 staff
  • Ontario — 1 student, 6 staff
  • Plymouth-Shiloh — 2 students, 7 staff

Totals were 18 students and 33 staff members.

This represents a total of 18 new student and 33 new staff cases.

According to the Department of Health, “A report of COVID-19 should not be interpreted as an indicator that a school district or school isn’t following proper procedures—school cases can be a reflection of the overall situation in the broader community. Families and staff should always feel free to ask questions of the school district or school.”
