Thursday’s release of information from the Ohio Department of Health included the weekly look at reported statistics from Ohio’s public and private schools.

For Richland County, these numbers continued an unfortunate trend of increases in student and staff cases of COVID-19. The figure of 77 new cases reported this week was 10 higher than that shared on November 28, and 23 higher than the 54 cases reported the Thursday before that.

These 77 cases involve 40 students and 37 staff members. It is unknown how the return of remote learning with some county schools impacted these numbers. On Thursday, Richland Source shared this overview of how various districts are handling that difficult decision.

The following schools reported cases this week:

  • Clear Fork — 3 students
  • Crestview — 4 staff
  • Foundation Academy — 1 student, 1 staff
  • Lexington — 3 students, 3 staff
  • Madison — 13 students, 5 staff
  • Mansfield Christian — 7 students, 3 staff
  • Mansfield City — 1 student, 7 staff
  • Ontario — 3 staff
  • Pioneer — 7 students, 2 staff
  • Plymouth-Shiloh — 2 students, 4 staff
  • Shelby –2 students, 4 staff
  • Richland School of Academic Arts — 1 student, 1 staff

According to the Department of Health, “A report of COVID-19 should not be interpreted as an indicator that a school district or school isn’t following proper procedures—school cases can be a reflection of the overall situation in the broader community. Families and staff should always feel free to ask questions of the school district or school.”
