One of the most important health decisions you will make for your pet is to have them spayed or neutered. Veterinarians generally agree that spaying/neutering offers many health benefits for the pet and, of course, it prevents unwanted litters. Locally, the Humane Society of Richland County (HSRC) has partnered with a traveling veterinary hospital, the Rascal Unit, to provide a low-cost spay/neuter option for cats, dogs and rabbits.

The Rascal Unit consists of two mobile veterinary hospitals which are based in Dublin, but travel throughout the state with the help of local humane organizations, pounds, and shelters to bring affordable pet sterilization and routine veterinary care to those in need.

The mobile unit will be at clinic dates at HSRC in 2020 on the following dates: March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10 and December 8.

Those who are interested in bringing their pet for spay/neuter must sign up in advance and in person at the Humane Society of Richland County (3025 Park Avenue West, Mansfield). Appointments fill up fast and a deposit of $20 per animal is required at time of signup. The deposit will be applied to the cost of the surgery.

A full price list for dog, cat and rabbit spay/neuter is available on the HSRC’s website. Those who have questions can reach out to the HSRC at 419-774-4795 or by email at [email protected].
