The United Way of Richland County has set an ambitious goal of $1.425 million for their 2019 fundraising campaign. Although they rely heavily on “pacesetter companies”, companies which have already provided funding to meet more than 33% of the fundraising goal, the United Way is also being creative in organizing events to raise money.

On October 11, the First Annual United Way of Richland County Sporting Clays Tournament will be held at Richland Fish and Game, 1360 Poth Road in Mansfield. Sporting clays is a form of clay pigeon shooting, often described as “golf with a shotgun” because a typical course includes from 10 to 15 different shooting stations laid out over natural terrain. Unlike trap and skeet, which are games of repeatable target presentations, sporting clays simulates the unpredictability of live-quarry shooting, offering a great variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations, distances, and target sizes.

The event will begin at 11:00 AM and a post-event reception will begin at 3:00 PM. The donation levels begin with a minimum of $200 for Individual Clay (receive ammunition for the day, eye and ear protection, steak dinner and shooter gift items) and increase from there.
