It’s not every day that a story in the Washington Post has a Richland County angle.

That’s the point of the piece, however – The Shawshank Redemption has proven to be an outlier among films in its ability to stir the imagination 25 years after release. And among the beneficiaries of that impact is the city of Mansfield.

The post, entitled “The unlikely greatness of ‘The Shawshank Redepmption,” 25 years later, penned by Zachary Pinkus-Roth, looks at the recent events commemorating the movie’s anniversary, and includes a look at the Shawshank Trail and the connection between the movie and Mansfield.

As Pinkus-Roth shared, “Mansfield was once a town for Westinghouse and General Motors. Now it’s a town for Shawshank.”

It’s a good read that rings very true – and has some good pictures to boot. The post can be read here.
