The official start of Ohio football takes place on Friday night, and all Richland County high school teams are in action as crowds gather, bands play, and fall is in the air.
As is traditional, almost all first week games are non-conference matches. Two of the contests pit one county school against another.

- Mansfield Senior v. Norwalk – at Mansfield Senior
- Ontario v. Lexington – at Lexington
- Clear Fork v. Fredericktown – at Fredericktown
- Lucas v. Danville – at Danville
- Plymouth v. Cardington-Lincoln – at Plymouth
- Crestview v. Loudonville – at Loudonville
