The Richland County Regional Planning Commission has spearheaded a temporary “pop up” project on Fourth Street, between North Main and North Diamond Streets, during the first two weeks of August. The project is designed to demonstrate the type of improvements which have been used in other cities to help to transform streets into more pedestrian-oriented locations.
We went to see the installation on Saturday afternoon. Included is a new, temporary, brightly painted mid-block crosswalk, the elimination of parking on the north side of Fourth and the inclusion of tables, chairs, etc., and lights placed in the walkway between that crosswalk and The Brickyard.
