As part of 1812Blockhouse’s emphasis on sharing news and information about our county and its residents, we realize that attractions and events just “over the border” in surrounding counties draw Richland Countians as well.  We will be highlighting several of these in our new series, “In Our Backyard.”

What better way to celebrate the wonders of January than with a winter themed festival? You’re in luck this weekend, as nearby Loudonville celebrates the 2020 Mohican Winter Fest this Saturday and Sunday.

The team from Elegant Ice Creations will offer six carving demonstrations Saturday on the hour from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The demonstrations are free and open to the public.

Weather permitting, the sponsored sculptures will be placed along Main Street on Friday evening and will remain in place throughout the weekend. (If the weather is too warm or rainy, the sculptures may go up Saturday morning instead.) Take a walk down Main Street to check out the ice sculptures and stop in to the local downtown businesses.

There are also many other activities, including a model train expo, a stuffed animal workshop at the library, and the American Legion Riders Sponsored Poker Walk. Additionally, tours of both the Cleo Redd Fisher Museum and the Workman Cabin will be held. There will also be music and dancing events at the Ugly Bunny Winery and the American Legion.

There is so much going on at Winterfest. To keep up with all the details, visit the Loudonville Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.

Send us your news — of an announcement, event,
club news, fundraiser – whatever! It’s easy to do online.
