A Super September Is Here

1 Sep , 2020

From our friends at Destination Mansfield – Richland County:

The Dog Days of Summer are coming to an end, which means it’s time to say hello to cooler temperatures and usher in Fall. On our September calendar, you’ll find some fan-favorite events, the chance to learn more about local history, and plenty of arts & entertainment.

Some fan-favorite events are still on the calendar! Tickets are officially on sale for the Acura Sports Car Challenge (Sept 25-27) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Get ready to shop till you drop, the beloved Prairie Peddler Marketplace is still set for September and October (Sept 26-27, Oct 3-4) in Butler, Ohio. New guidelines will be in place to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time at the festival.

Get to know Mansfield and beyond. In downtown Mansfield, explore the city’s local shops and restaurants during the First Friday Shop Hop (Sept 4). New this month, there will be a First Friday & Saturday Pop-up Shop (Sept 4-5) at Social on Main, a newly renovated storefront space that will showcase local entrepreneurs and artisans. Shop Mansfield’s local produce, honey, flowers and more at North End Farmers Market (Every Thursday starting Sept 3) at the NECIC Urban Farm. Explore downtown Mansfield’s historical buildings and architectural gems in the Secret City Tour (Sept 19).

Learn more about the history of Bellville, Ohio on the Bellville Cemetery Walk (Sept 12) at the Bellville Cemetery. A historic figure will take you on a 40-minute guided tour of the cemetery to visit the graves of Bellville’s most interesting residents. Visit Loudonville, Ohio for the 20th Annual Loudonville Car Show (Sept 5). Over 500 cars will be on display, but there will also be downtown shopping, an antique fair, music, food, and more. If you haven’t been to Plymouth, Ohio, stop by for Food Truck Friday (Sept 4). Grab lunch or dinner from a variety of food trucks and specialty food vendors and explore the village.

Visit the historic gardens before they go dormant. This month at Kingwood Center Gardens, enjoy the historic gardens free of charge on Free First Monday (Sept 7). Many people who visit Kingwood are intrigued by the mansion across the street. Access to this local curiosity is only available during the Townsend House Historic Tour (Sept 10, 24). Put on your best 1920’s outfit for Gatsby in the Garden (Sept 12) an exclusive seated wine and food pairing in the courtyard for 100 guests. Relax and wine down with Wine & Yoga in the Garden (Sept 17) or hunt for hidden treasures in a nighttime scavenger hunt at Kingwood After Dark: Hidden Treasures (Sept 3).

What’s On: support the arts. Productions are back on the main stage at The Mansfield Playhouse. Get your tickets now for Agatha Christie’s classic mystery, The Mousetrap at Mansfield Playhouse (Sept 11,12, 18, & 19). At the Renaissance Performing Arts Association, events continue in the Ren Backlot series, with the film Labyrinth (Sept 4) and Dancing in the Streets: The Motown Sound (Sept 11, 12), a concert of all the greatest hits to come out of the Motor City. At The Mansfield Art Center, The 75th Annual May Show & Transformations (Sept 1- 13) is on display.

For animal lovers, get up close with cuddly and exciting creatures! Meet fluffy alpacas, learn how to make goods out of alpaca fiber, and more at National Alpaca Days (Sept 26-27) at Shady Lane Alpaca Farm. Spend Time with the Birds (Sept 9, 29) is back by popular demand at Ohio Bird Sanctuary. This is your chance to get close to three of the sanctuary birds outside of their enclosure.

*The Honda Indy 200 has been postponed until a date to be determined in September or October. Please check Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course’s website for updates to the season schedule.
