1812Blockhouse provides regular weekend reports on road project work being conducted under the auspices of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Ashland, Crawford, and Richland Counties.

Such work is, of course, weather dependent. This past week, ODOT District 3 shared announcements of current and upcoming work in the three county area.

U.S. Route 42 bridge replacement – NEW IMPACTS – U.S. 42, between SR 89 and Township Road 553, will have signalized lane closures for a bridge replacement project.Due to project work, Township Road 543 will close Monday, July 15 for 75 days and is estimated to reopen the end of September 2024. Traffic on U.S. 42 will be maintained at all times in using temporary traffic signals and portable concrete barriers. Estimated completion of entire project: October 2024


U.S. Route 42 & State Route 302 intersection improvement – The U.S. 42 and State Route 302 intersection will be converted from the current two-way stop-controlled intersection into a single lane roundabout.

CONTINUING IMPACTS: Current Phase 1 Construction

  • SR 302 eastbound direction, from U.S. 42 to Township Rd 251/1080 intersection, remains closed for construction on the new roundabout. The intersection at U.S. 42 and SR 302 remains open, so motorists are able to travel along U.S. 42 during this phase of construction.
  • Access along SR 302 will be maintained for residents only. All residents and emergency personnel will need to enter the zone from SR 302 westbound.
  • Phase 1 work will approximately last from April 2024 till August 2024.
  • The detour route for all other motorists will be SR 302 west to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 302, and reverse.

Estimated completion of entire project: October 2024


Interstate 71 bridge repairs – I-71 northbound and southbound, at various locations between U.S. 30 and SR 301, will have nightly double lane closures in both directions for bridge repairs. Nightly lane closures will begin at 6:00PM, Monday evenings through Thursday evenings, while maintaining a 12’ lane in each direction. Estimated completion: September 2024


State Route 89 & State Route 302 intersection improvement – The State Route 89 and State Route 302 intersection will be converted from the current two-way stop-controlled intersection into a single lane roundabout.

CONTINUING IMPACTS: Current Phase 2 Construction

  • The SR 89 and SR 302 intersection is closed for 60 days to construct the remaining roundabout at this intersection. Detour routes:
    • Local detour: SR 89 north to U.S. 42 east to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 89, and reverse.
    • All other motorists: SR 302 west to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 302, and reverse.
  • Estimated completion of Phase 2: Friday, August 2, 2024
  • This is phase two of the project and will approximately last from June 2024 till August 2024.

Estimated completion of entire project: October 2024


State Route 89 culvert replacement – State Route 89, between U.S. 30 and County Road 1922, is closed for a culvert replacement. The detour route will be SR 89 south to U.S. 30 west to SR 60 south to SR 179 south to SR 95 east, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, June 21, 2024

State Route 19 railroad crossing repairs –State Route 19, between New Washington Road and SR 103, will have a single day closure on Monday, June 17 from 7:00AM – 6:00PM for railroad crossing repairs. The detour route will be SR 19 north to SR 103 west to SR 100 north to SR 67 north to U.S. 224 east to SR 19, and reverse. Estimated completion: Monday, June 17, 2024


U.S. Route 30 resurfacing – U.S. 30, from SR 98 to just east of SR 602, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Project work includes resurfacing and minor bridge work. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: December 2024


U.S. Route 30 culvert preservation – U.S. 30, from Crawford Wyandot Road to Old Lincoln Highway, will be reduced to one lane in each direction for a culvert maintenance project. One 12-foot lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: August 2024


State Route 61 filming production – State Route 61, within the Village of Crestline, will have a single day closure on Friday, June 14 from 8:00AM – 3:30PM for movie production filming. The detour route will be SR 61 to Arnold St east to SR 181 north to CR 330 west to SR 61, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, June 14, 2024


State Route 96 resurfacing – State Route 96, between SR 98 and SR 602, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: June 2024


State Route 181 resurfacing – SR 181 in the village of Crestline, from SR 61 to Bucyrus Street, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: August 2024


State Route 181 culvert replacement –State Route 181, just south of East Bucyrus Street, will close Monday, June 17, for a culvert replacement. The detour route will be SR 181 west to SR 309 west to SR 61 north to SR 181, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, June 28, 2024


State Route 598 resurfacing – SR 598, between the city of Galion and SR 39, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: August 2024

State Route 95 resurfacing – State Route 95, from the Knox County line to the village of Butler’s southern corporation limits, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times utilizing flaggers. Estimated completion: June 2024


State Route 96 bridge replacement – State Route 96, between SR 603 and SR 545, is closed for 120 days for a bridge replacement project. The detour route will be SR 96 west to SR 545 south to SR 603 north to SR 96, and reverse. Estimated completion: Tuesday, August 20, 2024
