What is Ohio’s PBIS Recognition System?
Ohio’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Recognition System is a statewide initiative aimed at celebrating the efforts of schools and districts in implementing quality and fidelity in PBIS. The program is spearheaded by the Ohio Department of Education and the PBIS Network. Schools have the opportunity to earn bronze, silver, or gold levels of distinction, based on their commitment and effectiveness in implementing PBIS strategies.
The Numbers Speak Volumes
In 2022, the Ohio PBIS Recognition System honored a total of 375 schools and districts. The breakdown of the awards was as follows: 41 gold awards, 80 silver awards, 238 bronze awards, and 16 district awards. Sherman Elementary’s Gold Recognition Award places it among the elite schools that have demonstrated exceptional dedication and effectiveness in PBIS implementation.
Who Powers Ohio’s PBIS Efforts?
The driving force behind PBIS in Ohio comes from the Department’s Office of Integrated Student Supports. Additionally, the program is supported by sixteen regional State Support Teams (SST) and numerous Educational Services Centers (ESC). Schools like Sherman Elementary play a crucial role by actively participating and excelling in the program, thereby contributing to its overall success.
