At its October meeting, the Board of Education of Madison Local Schools recognized achievement and discussed programming and finances.
Student Achievements
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of certificates to students who achieved perfect scores on the 2023 Spring State tests. The subjects ranged from grade three English language arts to American government. The board recognized the hard work of both students and educators in achieving these impressive scores.
Sports and Extracurricular Activities
A student representative provided updates on Madison Sports and other extracurricular activities. Girls’ soccer won their first tournament game, and boys’ soccer is preparing for their semi-final game. The school also held a PBIS event that was well-received by the students. Additionally, the National Honor Society (NHS) is planning an annual Powerpuff ball game for high school girls on November 5th.
Academic and Community Programs
The board discussed various academic programs and community engagement activities. At Madison South, 88% of first graders passed the unit 2 and 3 foundations test. Eastview celebrated their first quarter PBIS event with disco bowling. The middle school hosted a “Donuts B Divas” event that had over 200 people in attendance. The Career Center reported that a majority of their students passed various certification tests.
Financial and Policy Updates
The board touched upon the financial challenges facing the school district, citing deficit spending for the past three out of four years. They also discussed the possibility of using substitutes without bachelor’s degrees, a move now permitted by recent legislation.
The meeting concluded with updates on communication strategies, including the review of school communication platform options and the establishment of guidelines for social media posting.
