In the heart of Mansfield, a tradition of community giving is about to mark its 20th anniversary. It all began when Doc Stumbo and Tom Brennan, the now-retired managing editor of the Mansfield News Journal, decided to start a food drive for Make A Difference Day. Over the years, the event has grown, touching countless lives and filling empty stomachs.

Where and When to Donate

This year, the food and supply drive is set to kick off at 7 AM on October 20. Residents can drop off their donations in the parking area of Dan Lew Exchange, located at 28 N. Main St. Alternatively, Catholic Charities Richland County’s HOPE Food Pantry will also be accepting donations from 9 AM to 5 PM.

What to Donate

The organizers are encouraging donations of cash, checks, canned goods, and nonperishable food items. If you’re writing a check, make it payable to Catholic Charities Richland County. For those who prefer digital transactions, credit and debit card donations are accepted online at Catholic Charities’ website.

Beneficiaries of the Drive

The drive aims to benefit Wayfinders (formerly known as Harmony House) and Catholic Charities. These organizations have been instrumental in providing essential services to the community, and the food drive is a significant boost to their resources.

How to Get Involved

For those interested in contributing beyond donations, you can reach out to Susan Dyson at [email protected] or call 419.524.0733. Your ongoing support and generosity are not just appreciated; they’re making a tangible difference in the lives of your neighbors.
