Richland County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is gearing up for an exciting series of events this summer, designed to educate and entertain residents of all ages. From workshops on pasture management to family festivals, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. More information and registration for all events can be found on the Richland County SWCD website.
Field Day for Plain Growers: June 14
Kicking off the events on June 14 is the Field Day for Plain Growers, part of the 2024 Richland County Pasture & Grazing School Series. This workshop will take place from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the City of Shiloh Fire Station. For just $10 per person, participants will gain valuable insights into pasture and grazing management. Designed for those new to livestock and forage management, this event includes lunch and a grazing stick. Women for the Land Learning Circle: June 15
The following day, June 15, women in agriculture are invited to the Women for the Land Learning Circle, another workshop in the series. Held at Shady Lane Alpaca Farm in Mansfield from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, this event also costs $10 per person and includes lunch and a grazing stick. It offers a supportive environment for women interested in pasture and grazing management to learn and network. Registration is available online or by calling Jordan Keller.
Board of Supervisors Meeting: June 19
For those interested in the workings of local governance, the Board of Supervisors Meeting will be held on June 19 at 9:00 am at the Longview Center’s RSWCD Conference Room in Mansfield. Open to the public, these monthly meetings provide a platform for community members to engage with board supervisors. Contact the Director in advance if you plan to attend.
Family Fun on the Farm Festival: June 29
On June 29, families can head to Malabar Farm State Park for the Family Fun on the Farm Festival from noon to 4:00 pm. With free admission, this event promises a day full of hands-on kids’ activities, farm demonstrations, and delicious food. The festival organizers are currently seeking exhibitors, vendors, and volunteers to help make the day a success.
Long Live Leaves Arts & Crafts Workshop: July 9
July brings more creative opportunities, starting with the Long Live Leaves workshop on July 9 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Longview Center. For $12 per person, participants will create a beautiful bowl or dish from a leaf impression, with all materials provided. Pre-registration is required, and interested individuals can sign up online or contact Theresa Sutter.
Board of Supervisors Meeting: July 17
The Board of Supervisors will meet again on July 17 at 9:00 am in the RSWCD Conference Room at the Longview Center. Community members are welcome to attend and participate in these monthly discussions. Contact the Director ahead of the meeting if you plan to join.
Pastures for Profit Grazing School: July 23, 25, & 27
Rounding out the summer events is the Pastures for Profit Grazing School, scheduled for July 23, 25, and 27 at multiple locations. This comprehensive workshop costs $30 per person and includes dinner on the 23rd and 25th, a grazing stick, and a USB with the course manual. It’s designed to provide in-depth knowledge for those interested in pasture and grazing management. Registration is available online or by calling Jordan Keller.
