The City of Shelby has issued a Peak Power Alert for Wednesday evening between 6 -9 PM and tomorrow morning between 7 – 9 AM.

As temperatures are expected to drop well below zero during the next couple days, electric customers are being asked to conserve power.   Some methods to help conserve electricity would be reducing a thermostat temperature setting by 2 degrees, turning off lights that are not needed, and delay washing and drying clothes during these target times.

The City will be running the diesel generators to curtail the overall electric demand as well.

The lower the city electric meter at the AEP substation, the more the City will save on our transmission cost. One of the times listed is predicted to be the peak time that will set our cost for transmission for the entire 2020 billing year.

Citizens are urged to help reduce the city’s overall electric load, with this a community event to help reduce the electric rates.  Every kilowatt reduced will save on electric cost.  A reduction of 1000 kilowatts will save $72,000.
