To ensure an organized and joyful experience for all, Kingwood Center requires advance registration for this event. This applies to all visitors, including Kingwood members and children. Admission is set at $8 for non-members, while children under 12 and Kingwood members enjoy free admission. Registration and ticket purchase can be completed through the Kingwood Center website.

Guests are advised to use the Trimble Road parking lot and enter through the Garden Gateway, the visitor center. This ensures a smooth flow of traffic and a pleasant start to the event.

The Wonder of Reindeer

The reindeer, known scientifically as Rangifer tarandus, is a species with a broad distribution across the Arctic and subarctic regions. This majestic creature is native to areas such as Northern Europe, Siberia, and North America. Fascinatingly, there are about 25,000 mountain reindeer in Norway’s Hardangervidda region and around 250,000 in Sweden, managed by Sami villages.

A Cultural and Historical Symbol

Reindeer have a long history of domestication, dating back to the period after the Last Glacial Maximum. They hold significant cultural and historical importance in various regions around the world. In the United States and Canada, the reindeer gained widespread popularity through Clement Clarke Moore’s 1823 poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” where the names of the eight reindeer were first introduced.

This event at Kingwood is more than just a chance to see these incredible animals; it’s an opportunity to immerse in the holiday spirit and create lasting memories. The chance to meet real reindeer is a unique and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
