Belleville is preparing to celebrate Memorial Day in a uniquely vibrant and inclusive way with its 2nd Annual Memorial Day Bike Decorating Contest. Scheduled for Monday, May 27, this event invites the town’s youngest to gather at the American Legion Parking Lot at 77 Bell Street. The excitement begins with a bike line-up at 10:00 AM, followed by the eagerly awaited judging at 10:30 AM.
This community event is open to children and teens, from newborns to 18 years old. It’s an opportunity for the young residents of Belleville to express their patriotism through creative means. Participants can decorate bicycles, tricycles, unicycles, scooters, wagons, wheelchairs, and strollers, ensuring that every child can be a part of the celebration regardless of their mode of transportation.
The focus is on American patriotic themes, with decorations prominently featuring red, white, and blue. Participants are encouraged to use flags, balloons, ribbons, streamers, bells, whistles, and signs to festoon their bikes. To maintain the event’s family-friendly atmosphere, entries must be non-motorized, free from political messages, fireworks, and any vulgar elements.
Belleville’s Memorial Day Bike Decorating Contest is as much about participation as it is about competition. Prizes are designed to reward creativity and effort: $10.00 for first place, $5.00 for second, and $3.00 for third, with all other participants receiving a $1 gold coin. This prize distribution ensures that every participant is recognized for their patriotic spirit.
