As the leaves turn and the air grows crisp, Richland County roadwork projects are decreasing in number but very much still a fact of life. From resurfacing on U.S. Route 42 to a bridge replacement on State Route 603, these projects are essential for maintaining the region’s infrastructure. Here’s what you need to know to navigate the roads safely and efficiently this early November.

U.S. Route 42 Gets a Facelift

Starting this month, U.S. Route 42 between Holloway/Eckert Road and Fox Road will undergo a resurfacing project. Single lane closures are expected, but fear not—traffic will be maintained by flaggers throughout the duration of the project. The estimated completion date for this project is set for November 2023. So, if you’re planning to use this route, make sure to allocate some extra time for potential delays.

State Route 430: A Chip Off the Old Block

Another project to keep an eye on is the chip seal work on State Route 430. The affected stretch runs from Reed Road to the Ashland County line. Similar to the U.S. Route 42 project, single lane closures are expected, and flaggers will be on site to manage traffic flow. The project aims to extend the lifespan of the road and is also slated for completion in November 2023.

State Route 603 Bridge Replacement

Unlike the other two projects, State Route 603 between Snake Road and Rome Greenwich Road will be completely closed for a bridge replacement project over Shipp Creek. The closure is expected to last for 90 days. For northbound motorists, the detour route will be SR 603 to SR 13, north on SR 13 to U.S. 224, west on U.S. 224 to SR 61, and south on SR 61 to SR 603. Southbound motorists should follow the route in reverse. The project is expected to wrap up by 4:00 PM on Monday, November 6.
