In a blend of history and humor, the Richland, Morrow, and Knox County Chapters of the Ohio Genealogical Society are gearing up to present a captivating event that promises to shine a new light on the field of genealogy. Scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, at the Samuel D. Isaly Library in Bellville, Ohio, the event will feature the renowned genealogy expert, Daniel Horowitz, from MyHeritage. With his extensive experience and a knack for uncovering the lighter side of genealogy, Horowitz is set to engage audiences with tales of oddball techniques and tools in his talk “The Funny Side of Genealogy” at 6:00 PM.

A Glimpse into the Past

Earlier on the same day, at 3:00 PM, Horowitz will delve into a more technical aspect of genealogical research with his presentation “Where There’s a Will There’s a Way… To Research Your Family.” Sponsored by The Ohio Genealogical Society, this session aims to provide attendees with an in-depth look at using wills and other estate documents to trace lineage and uncover family histories.

The Man Behind the Ancestry

Daniel Horowitz is not just any speaker; his journey in genealogy stretches back to 1986, deeply rooted in a passion for uncovering family histories and connecting the past with the present. Before his current role as the Genealogy Expert at MyHeritage, Horowitz dedicated 15 years to “Searching for My Roots,” a family history project in Venezuela. His commitment has also seen him hold influential positions within the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) and the Israel Genealogy Research Association (IGRA).

Since joining MyHeritage in 2006, Horowitz has played a pivotal role in various departments, including product development, customer support, and public affairs. His work is not just about enhancing genealogical research tools; it’s about building bridges between the past and the present, facilitating a deeper understanding of where we come from.

A Humorous Approach to History

What sets Horowitz apart is his unique ability to inject humor into the often-serious quest of genealogical research. His evening presentation, “The Funny Side of Genealogy,” is a testament to the unexpected joys and surprises that come with delving into family histories. Attendees can look forward to a light-hearted exploration of the field, filled with anecdotes of bizarre resources and methods that have surfaced in Horowitz’s years of research.

For those with a keen interest in the methodologies of genealogical research, “Where There’s a Will There’s a Way… To Research Your Family” offers a treasure trove of insights. Horowitz will guide participants through the use of wills and estate documents to trace familial lines, showcasing the tools and strategies that have enabled him to connect with the descendants of distant relatives.

Join the Journey

The event, taking place at The Samuel D. Isaly Library, 611 St. Rt. 97 West, Bellville, is a must-attend for anyone fascinated by the stories that bind us to our ancestors. Whether you’re new to genealogy or a seasoned researcher, Horowitz’s presentations promise to enrich your understanding of your family’s past while providing a few laughs along the way.
