The Renaissance Theatre announces virtual auditions for their 2021 Summer musical, Hairspray. Auditions are open to performers ages 15 or older, and all diversities are encouraged to submit as the Renaissance maintains a policy of ethnically appropriate casting.

Performances will take place live on the Renaissance stage, July 31 – August 8, with rehearsals beginning June 29. Some roles are paid and all safety, masking and social distancing policies are strictly enforced.

Auditionees are asked to prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show, and learn a dance combination. Dance instruction videos will be made available at rentickets.org. Please submit a resume, headshot, and audition video including an introduction to [email protected].

Parties interested in submitting an audition should do so via an unlisted YouTube video link. Send an email with the subject heading “[Your Name] – Hairspray Audition” Please do not include a video file as an attachment in your email. The deadline to submit your audition is April 18, 2021.

This smash-hit musical tells the story of Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and big dreams. She dreams of making it on the local TV dance show, winning the heart of teen heartthrob, Link Larkin, and bringing everyone together – whatever their race, size or hairdo. If she wants change, she’s really got to shake things up!

Featuring the infectiously feel-good songs Good Morning Baltimore, You Can’t Stop the Beat and Run and Tell That, this inspirational, fun-loving and fabulously uplifting musical sensation is back and bigger than ever.
