On October 11 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the auditorium at Riedl Hall at Ohio State Mansfield will be buzzing with the curious and the literary-minded. The event, hosted by The Bromfield Library & Information Commons in collaboration with author and historian Mark Sebastian Jordan, promises an evening of intrigue, history, and storytelling.

The Witch of Mansfield

The spotlight of the evening will be on the book, “The Witch of Mansfield: The Tetched Life of Phebe Wise.” This compelling work dives deep into the life of Phebe Wise, the daughter of one of Mansfield’s founding fathers. Phebe’s life was anything but ordinary; she became a target for robbers and an obsessed stalker, experiences that culminated in shocking violence. Yet, she emerged as a hypnotic and strange survivor, leaving an indelible impact on her young cousin, Louis Bromfield, who would go on to achieve his own fame.

The Author’s Lens

Mark Sebastian Jordan, the man behind the book, brings a historian’s meticulousness to the narrative. He incorporates historical documentation, photographs, and eyewitness accounts to paint a vivid picture of Phebe Wise. His work aims to give Phebe a voice, allowing her to speak for herself after years of being a subject in others’ stories.

Book Availability and More

For those interested in delving deeper into this enigmatic tale, copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event. If you’re not ready to commit to buying just yet, the Bromfield Library will also offer copies for borrowing. Light refreshments will be served to keep the atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable.
