The State of Ohio announced this week that some 22 regional and local organizations have received grants to help low income Ohioans complete home repairs and receive homebuyer counseling.

In all, the Ohio Development Services Agency awarded approximately $4.57 million to support health and safety home repairs, improve handicapped accessibility, and provide down payment assistance.

Local organizations use the Housing Assistance Grant Program to help Ohioans at or below 50 percent of the area median income with emergency home repairs, and also Ohioans at or below 65 percent of the area median income with down payment assistance or homebuyer counseling.

The program is funded by the Ohio Housing Trust Fund.

Two of the agencies receiving grants have Richland County in their coverage area. They include:

Community Action Commission of Erie, Huron and Richland Counties received $112,000

Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging which serves Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca, and Wyandot Counties received $640,000.

The latter award was the highest made statewide.
