Richland County fans of BBC staple The Graham Norton Show that are able to see the  this past Friday’s episode might sense a bit of local flavor.

During the show, Norton welcomed guests Sir Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. The duo are on the last stages of a press tour for their new film, “Going in Style,” and during their interview, the host quizzed each of them about former film roles, particularly “Alfie” for Caine, and “The Shawshank Redemption” for Freeman.

At one point during Freeman’s show comments, reference was made to meeting by a tree – this coming on the same week that the well-known local landmark and movie site oak was removed after a 2011 lightning strike and continuing decay.

The show continued with Freeman doing a “voiceover” in Shawshank style. A video of that segment can be viewed at this link.

Freeman referenced the fact that despite the movie’s ongoing popularity, it “tanked” at the box office. Part of that was due, the actor suggested, to the difficulty movie-goers had in remembering the film’s name.
