A Richland County collegiate athlete is forging new paths in his role as a tight end for the nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Lexington graduate Cade Stover has received kudos throughout the current season for his excellent performance, and now has been named a semifinalist for the top award honoring collegiate tight ends in the NCAA.

The Friends of John Mackey have announced nine semifinalists for the 2022 John Mackey Award. Listed alphabetically, they are: Brock Bowers, Georgia; Payne Durham, Purdue; Dalton Kincaid, Utah; Sam LaPorta, Iowa; Michael Mayer, Notre Dame; Caden Prieskorn, Memphis; Ja’Tavion Sanders, Texas; Cade Stover, Ohio State; and Darnell Washington, Georgia.

The 2022 John Mackey recipient will be presented at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN (December 8).

Stover already has the most season receptions by an OSU tight end since Rickey Dudley caught 37 in 1995, and the second most in the Big Ten for his position.
