1. 🏗️ West Park demolition draws strong contractor interest
About 30 contractors attended Monday’s pre-bid tour of the vacant West Park Shopping Center on Park Avenue West. The 17.4-acre property is slated for partial demolition beginning in late fall, with completion targeted for May. The Richland County Land Bank received a $1 million state grant for the project. Bids are due September 15 at 9:00 AM.
Why it matters: Removing the deteriorated buildings could clear one of Mansfield’s most visible redevelopment obstacles while preserving space for businesses that remain at the site. Read the Mansfield News Journal report.
2. 🏠 Council considers veterans and senior housing proposal tonight
Mansfield City Council is expected to vote on rezoning 10 acres at 665 Lexington Avenue, formerly occupied by CenturyLink. The Milliron Foundation wants to convert the three-story building into 61 affordable apartments for veterans and older adults, with community, fitness, medical and event spaces on the ground floor.

3. ⚾ Mansfield baseball fan closes in on 1,000 stadium visits
Today’s News Man Weekly podcast features Joe Robertson, a 71-year-old lifelong Mansfield resident who has visited more than 900 baseball stadiums, including every Major League Baseball park. The episode also examines Mansfield police-community relations and recaps downtown’s inaugural Coney Fest.

4. 🚲 Shelby museum plans move forward inside historic firehouse
Late Monday: Shelby’s 1872 Engine House is being restored as the future Shelby Steel & Wheel Museum. Exhibits will explore the city’s bicycle manufacturers and its role as the home of the first cold-drawn seamless-steel-tubing factory in the United States.

5. 🎨 Mansfield teen earns national recognition for artwork
Late Monday: Reba Kinder, a 15-year-old Northmor High School sophomore from Mansfield, was selected as one of 125 first-place winners in the 2026 America’s Field Trip contest. More than 10,000 students submitted work reflecting on what America means to them.
Kinder’s artwork focuses on military service and sacrifice. Her prize included a curated educational trip to Charleston, South Carolina. Read the Richland Source feature.
6. 🚧 Wood Street remains closed for water-main repairs
Wood Street is closed between Glessner Avenue and Ohio Street while Mansfield crews repair a water main. No through traffic is permitted, and motorists should use an alternate route.
