Mansfield is the birthplace of Safety Town. Police Patrolman Frend Boals developed the program after a child was struck and killed, and the first Safety Town opened at Prospect Park on Aug. 6, 1937. 🙏 Festival of Hope draws thousands to Mansfield Speedway
Thousands of people gathered Saturday at Mansfield Speedway for the Festival of Hope, a free event featuring worship, children’s activities, baptisms and $20,000 in giveaways. The event was organized by Godsfield, a nonprofit that works to bring Mansfield-area churches together for outreach and fellowship. More than 400 volunteers distributed groceries, gas cards and Bibles while staffing activity stations and prayer tents. 🚔 Saturday’s OVI checkpoint was canceled
The OVI checkpoint scheduled for Saturday night on Trimble Road was canceled by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The cancellation was announced at 3:13 PM because of incoming severe weather. The checkpoint had been planned from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM near Millsboro Road. No replacement date was announced. Read the cancellation notice
🌻 Kingwood hosts three garden attractions
Kingwood Center Gardens is hosting the second day of the Mansfield Men’s Garden Club’s 71st annual Fall Harvest Show. The show, dedicated to the America 250 observance, runs from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Ohio Daylily Society will also hold an auction and sale from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Visitors can see the outdoor Glass in Flight 2 sculpture exhibit until 7:00 PM. See Sunday’s Kingwood schedule
🎶 Free Laufey concert film comes to the Renaissance
The Renaissance Theatre will present a free screening of Laufey’s A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl at 5:00 PM. The film features Laufey performing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a concert blending jazz, pop and classical music. The screening concludes Mansfield’s participation in A Very Laufey Day, with the Mansfield Art Center selected as one of 75 official locations worldwide. 🎓 Ohio State Mansfield welcomes residential students
Ohio State Mansfield will hold Molyet Welcome Night from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Molyet Community Center. The event includes free food, games and other activities. It is designed to help students living in Molyet meet one another as the new academic year begins. See the campus event
