👻 Blood Prison unveils plans for a new season
Published Tuesday: Blood Prison will return to the Ohio State Reformatory from September 25 through November 1. The haunted attraction will operate Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings with more than 100 characters.
Organizers have added new sets, lighting, audio and an updated costume for the Warden’s Widow. General admission begins at $35, while daytime Beyond the Scare tours will offer a lights-on look at the sets. Read Tuesday’s Richland Source preview.
🚒 Shelby considers grant for career firefighters
Friday preview, happening tonight: Shelby City Council will consider authorizing an application for a federal SAFER grant to hire career firefighters.
Other agenda items include Richland County’s updated five-year solid-waste plan, an appropriations amendment and proposed changes to septage receiving rates. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM at 29 Mack Avenue. Read the Shelby News Reporter preview.
🚧 State Route 314 closes today
Earlier ODOT notice, taking effect Tuesday: State Route 314 will close just north of Millsboro Road for a culvert replacement. The detour follows State Route 314, State Route 309, State Route 61 and State Route 97 through the Galion area.
The road is expected to reopen Friday, September 18. U.S. Route 42 between Cedarwood Drive and Gables Boulevard is scheduled to close Wednesday for a separate project lasting through October 2. See ODOT’s Richland County traffic advisories.
🩸 Museum hosts community blood drive
The American Red Cross and Buckeye Imagination Museum will hold a blood drive from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM today at the museum in downtown Mansfield.
Appointments can be made through the Red Cross, although prospective donors should confirm availability before arriving. See the Richland Area Chamber event listing.
🦎 Gorman Nature Center invites visitors to feeding time
The Richland County Park District will hold Public Animal Feeding Day from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM today at Gorman Nature Center, 2295 Lexington Avenue.

🍽️ Mansfield restaurateur receives Kentucky honor
Monday carryover: Mansfield Family Restaurant owner James “Jimmy” Papas has been commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in recognition of his community service, leadership and hospitality.
Papas arrived in the United States from Greece in 1966 at age 17 and later built a long career in Mansfield’s restaurant community. He received the honor Saturday at his Park Avenue West restaurant. Read the community profile.
