Mansfield takes its name from Jared Mansfield, the United States surveyor general whose instructions helped shape public-land surveys across the expanding nation. Despite the honor, Jared Mansfield apparently never visited the community bearing his name. 👕 Mansfield officers outfit 150 children for school

The Fraternal Order of Police William J. Taylor Lodge No. 32 marked the 30th year of its Cops-N-Kids shopping program Sunday at the Possum Run Road Walmart. About 150 children, most connected with the Richland County Children Services kinship-care program, received between $125 and $175 for clothing and shoes. Current and retired Mansfield police officers, Richland County sheriff’s deputies and other volunteers helped families shop. The local FOP supports the program through an annual fundraising campaign. 🫐 Blueberry parade survives a flooded festival

Lexington’s Sunday Funday Parade went forward even though flooding forced the cancellation of most of the 2026 Blueberry Festival. The nearly hour-long procession traveled from Lexington High School to Community Park under sunny skies. Festival royalty, the Lexington Marching Band of Gold, athletic teams, first responders and visiting festival queens participated. 🚧 Two Richland County roads close today

The westbound lane of Cook Road East in Madison Township will close between Mansfield-Washington and Mansfield-Lucas roads from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM today. Westbound traffic will be detoured along Mansfield-Lucas and Mansfield-Washington roads. Rhinehart Road in Jefferson Township will also close between Rule and Dill roads for a culvert replacement. 🏗️ Land Bank seeks bids for West Park Shopping Center

The Richland County Land Reutilization Corporation is soliciting contractor bids for work at the West Park Shopping Center, 1157 Park Avenue West. A mandatory pre-bid walkthrough is scheduled at the property for Aug. 31 at 10:00 AM. Sealed proposals must be submitted by Sept. 15 at 9:00 AM to the Land Bank office in the lower level of the Richland County Building. 🎓 Ohio State Mansfield welcomes new Buckeyes

Ohio State Mansfield will hold its new-student convocation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM today in Founders Auditorium. The annual campus tradition officially welcomes new Buckeyes and marks the beginning of their academic journey. A dean’s picnic will follow from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Eisenhower Marketplace.
