The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library is inviting the community to celebrate America’s 250th birthday this summer with programs, patriotic music, local history and a hand-crafted quilt that brings the theme to life in red, white and blue. From June 1 through July 11, adults who attend any library program at any MRCPL location will earn a special ticket for an Americana quilt raffle. The featured quilt, titled “Born to Run,” measures 51 inches by 66 inches and was hand-crafted by Country Fabrics of Shiloh.

The quilt will be on display in the second-floor lobby of the Main Library from June 1 through July 10, giving visitors a chance to see the work up close before the raffle winner is announced on July 17.

History, Harmony and a Birthday Celebration

A special event, “Happy 250th Birthday, America!,” will take place Wednesday, June 24 at 5:00 PM in the second-floor lobby of the Main Library. The family-friendly program is part of the local celebration of America250-Ohio, the statewide effort connected to the nation’s semiquincentennial. Local historian and Bellville Branch Manager Josh Andra will mark the occasion by reciting the Declaration of Independence during the opening reception. The Fun Center Chordsmen, Mansfield’s premier men’s a cappella chorus, will add to the celebration with a selection of patriotic classics.

A Community Moment at the Library

The event offers more than a formal observance. It is designed as a welcoming community gathering, with refreshments served and Happy Birthday America cake kits available while supplies last. Guests attending the June 24 program will also have the opportunity to enter the Americana quilt raffle while they are there.

For MRCPL, the summer celebration ties together several familiar library strengths: access to public programs, local history, family participation and the chance for residents to gather around a shared milestone. Whether visitors come for the music, the Declaration of Independence, the quilt display or simply a slice of birthday spirit, the library’s summer celebration offers a local way to take part in a national anniversary.

The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library’s America250-Ohio activities continue through July 11 at all locations, with the quilt raffle winner to be announced July 17.
