Another round of visible progress is taking shape in downtown Mansfield as work continues on the Main Street Improvement Project. Downtown Mansfield, Inc. recently shared its latest project update, outlining work completed between June 1 and June 12 and previewing what residents, visitors, and business owners can expect through June 27.

The project remains active across several downtown blocks, with crews continuing pavement preparation, brick installation, drainage improvements, sidewalk work, electrical upgrades, and stone veneer installation.

Recent Progress Downtown

Over the past two weeks, crews completed grading and subbase work at the Park Avenue and Main Street intersection. Geocell and geotextile fabric were also installed at the intersection as part of preparation for continued pavement work.

Between 3rd Street and Park Avenue, brick pavers and crosswalk asphalt were placed, marking another visible step forward in the streetscape portion of the project. Electrical crews pulled wire and removed old signal infrastructure, while pole foundations were removed and new ones were poured at Park Avenue and Main Street.

Stone veneer was placed on retaining walls and piers at several locations, and Smith Paving continued concrete work, including curb ramps, sidewalks, and crosswalks. Additional project work included installation of a storm sewer structure at Park Avenue and Walnut Street, placement of planter curbs throughout the project area, and completion of the wall at Bankz Salon.

What Comes Next

Through June 27, crews are expected to continue subgrade compaction and concrete pavement placement at the Park Avenue intersection. Decorative Paving will continue brick installation between 3rd Street and Park Avenue, while electrical crews continue removing old traffic signals and pulling wire. Stone veneer installation will also continue on walls throughout the project limits.

Smith Paving is expected to continue concrete pours across the project area. Curb and sidewalk work is also planned between 1st and 3rd Streets, with additional drainage work anticipated along Park Avenue and South Walnut Street.

Traffic And Access

The Park Avenue intersection remains closed to traffic while work continues, while Main Street traffic is being detoured using Mulberry and Diamond Streets. Park Avenue traffic should use 3rd and 4th Streets. Main Street remains open between 3rd Street and North Park Drive, though partial lane closures will be in place during work hours, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Roads are expected to reopen at the end of each workday.

Minor delays are expected, and traffic patterns may shift as work progresses.

Downtown businesses remain open and accessible during the project. Any temporary driveway closures will be coordinated directly with affected businesses in advance. Businesses near the Park Avenue intersection can be accessed from South Park Street and North Park Street via Diamond Street and Main Street.

Downtown Mansfield, Inc. thanked the public for its patience and cooperation as the Main Street Improvement Project continues to reshape the downtown corridor.
