This past week, seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for Ohio’s counties and larger cities were released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. While the state’s rate remained steady, the rates in Richand and all adjacent counties remain substantially level from the month before.

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in August, up 0.1 percent from July.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in August was 238,000, up 3,000 from 235,000 in July. The number of unemployed has decreased by 24,000 in the past 12 months from 262,000. The August unemployment rate for Ohio decreased from 4.6 percent in August 2018.

The U.S. unemployment rate for August was 3.7 percent, unchanged from July, and down from 3.8 percent in August 2018.

The highest increases in employment statewide took place in goods producing industries, manufacturing, and leisure and hospitality. Rates ranged from Mercer County’s 2.7 percent to 7.4 percent in Monroe County.
