It has been 25 years since that day back in 1994 when the Timber Framers Guild raused the reconstructed timber frame for the Big Barn at Malabar Farm State Park.
A lot has changed in those two and a half decades, including the addition of a new Visitors Center and other improvements, but the barn still stands tall and proud.
To commemorate the anniversary, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is planning a celebration at the park, and part of the events will be a timber frame workshop to cut and raise a white oak timber frame to be used for demonstrations during the annual Maple Syrup Festival each spring.
Members of the Guild will be joined by Friends of Ohio Barns in cutting the frame, interacting with park visitors, and spreading the word about timber framing and barn conservation.
The timbers were donated by long time Guild supporter Hochstetler Timbers from Loudonville and the workshop is being facilitated by JCM Timberworks from Killbuck. The frame design was donated by Christian & Son, Inc. of Burbank, Ohio and long time Guild members Laura Saeger and Rudy Christian will be leading the workshop instruction and raising.
Events will take place from August 31 through September 2. We will have updates when a more complete schedule is available.
