We’re marking America’s 250th anniversary on 1812Blockhouse in a way that feels close to home.

Beginning later this week and throughout 2026, we’ll be drawing from our archives and publishing new stories that highlight the deep and often surprising connections between Mansfield, Richland County, and the national story. We’re calling this yearlong project Richland Celebrates 250.

Our coverage will follow the monthly themes established by the America 250–Ohio program, using them as a framework to explore local people, places, and moments that helped shape Ohio and the nation.

January – Ohio Firsts & Originals
February – Inventions, Innovation, Business & Work
March – Music & Entertainment
April – Transportation: planes, trains, automobiles, and more
May – Arts, Culture, and Movies
June – Natural Resources
July – Ohio’s statewide picnic and homecoming
August – The Ohio State Fair and county fairs
September – Sports
October – Agriculture
November – Veterans and First Responders
December – Future Ohio

Beginning in January and continuing all year long, Richland Celebrates 250 will take readers on a steady journey into the past of this remarkable corner of the Buckeye State. As always on Richland County’s only free, daily updated news and information site, every story will be available without paywalls, subscriptions, or credit card prompts.
