The Mansfield Police Department is set to receive $81,000 as part of the latest round of state funding aimed at reducing violent crime across Ohio. The award was one of the largest 25 highest amounts awarded.
The award comes through the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program, an initiative announced this week by Mike DeWine and Andy Wilson. In this 15th round of funding, 44 law enforcement agencies across 28 counties will share $3.4 million.
The funding can be used for a range of strategies, including investigative overtime, targeted patrols in high-crime areas, and the deployment of new technology designed to support crime reduction efforts.
Since the program’s launch in 2021, the state has awarded more than $87 million to over 200 law enforcement agencies, reflecting a sustained investment in locally driven approaches to public safety.
“There is no shortage of innovative ideas that our local law enforcement agencies are using to combat violent crime in their communities,” DeWine said in announcing the awards. “Their work to implement crime-fighting technology and tactics is making Ohio safer.”
The latest grants are funded through the state’s 2026–2027 operating budget.
For Mansfield, the $81,000 allocation provides additional resources to continue or expand efforts already underway, part of a broader statewide strategy that emphasizes targeted, data-informed enforcement rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.
