Later today, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Ohio Shine Co. will officially open its doors at 126 N. Franklin Ave., marking the arrival of a new craft moonshine distillery in downtown Mansfield. The small-batch operation is stepping into the city’s growing local beverage scene with an emphasis on artisanal production and a clear sense of place. Additional grand opening hours continue February 28 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, giving the community a full weekend to stop in and see what is new.
The new establishment has been hard at work making this information known.
Not a Bar, and Proud of It
Let’s be clear about what Ohio Shine Co. is and what it is not. This is not a traditional bar. Under its state license, the distillery can offer samples only, then sell bottles for off-site consumption. That means no lingering with a cocktail. No ordering a round and settling in for the evening.
Tasting samples will be available for $2 for four 0.25-ounce pours, which is the maximum allowed by state regulations. It is a structured experience, more tasting room than tavern. For many, that is part of the appeal. You come to learn the flavors, choose your bottle, and take it home.
There is also a daily purchase limit of four bottles per person. It is another reminder that this is a craft operation working within defined guardrails.
A Weekend Crowd, and a Few Practical Notes
The owners are expecting a large turnout. They are also candid about where they are in the process. This is opening weekend. Systems are still being refined. Patience will go a long way. Parking in their lot is limited. Street parking is encouraged, and there is an invitation to park closer to the Phoenix and enjoy a short walk through downtown. On a clear late-winter weekend, that stroll might be part of the fun.
If you are curious about the Signature clear shine, arrive early. It is a limited bottling, and once it is gone, it will not return for roughly three weeks. Scarcity is not a marketing gimmick here. It is simply the reality of small-batch production. Inside, there is more than just bottles. Branded hats, shirts, and hoodies are available, and the team has set up a couple of photo-friendly spots for those who want to document the moment.
Another Downtown Option
Mansfield has been steadily building a more varied local beverage culture. Breweries, wineries, and specialty spots have given people reasons to come downtown and stay awhile. Ohio Shine Co. adds something distinct to that mix.
Moonshine carries history with it. In this case, it is being reinterpreted as a legal, regulated, carefully crafted product meant to highlight local identity rather than dodge it. The message from the team is simple: enjoy. They are excited to be part of downtown’s momentum. They are excited to welcome people in. And they know that opening weekend will be a learning curve.
For Mansfield, though, this feels like a small but meaningful step. Another storefront lit. Another reason to walk Franklin Avenue. Another sign that the city’s story continues to evolve, one bottle at a time.
