Christmas Time in the City is back in downtown Mansfield this Friday, December 5, turning Richland Carrousel Park and the surrounding streets into a walkable pocket of holiday lights, music, and family traditions. The celebration runs from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with Richland Carrousel Park at 75 N. Main St. serving as the hub for most of the action.

A tree lighting that anchors the night

The evening’s centerpiece is the lighting of downtown Mansfield’s 30-foot Christmas tree, set for around 6:00 PM. Families tend to cluster around the square early to get a good view, then spill back toward the carrousel and Main Street shops once the lights are on and the photos are taken. Radio partners are also helping keep the event on people’s radar with on-air reminders leading up to Friday night.

Reindeer, Santa, and a working carrousel

Richland Carrousel Park will be busy from the moment the first riders arrive. Live reindeer will be on site for photos, and Santa will be greeting children and posing for pictures at or near the carrousel. In past years, Mrs. Claus has often joined in, and organizers are planning the same warm, informal feel so families can come and go without feeling rushed. Carriage rides are scheduled during the event, with tickets sold online in advance to keep the line moving.

Alongside the rides and meet-and-greets, visitors can watch an ice sculptor at work, turning solid blocks of ice into shimmering holiday designs as the evening goes on. Kids can move from the carving area straight to cookie decorating, courtesy of Buckeye Bakery Inc., which is providing treats ready for frosting and sprinkles. It is the sort of setup that keeps younger visitors happily occupied while adults enjoy the music, lights, and people-watching.

A local beer garden for the grown-ups

For those looking to relax between activities, a Christmas beer garden will be set up at the carrousel. Local favorites The Phoenix Brewing Company and Schnitz Brewery will both be pouring, giving adults a chance to sample Mansfield-made craft beer while the kids ride or visit Santa. Concessions and other snacks will also be available on site.

Shops open late and downtown in holiday mode

Christmas Time in the City is designed as more than a single-site event. Many downtown shops, galleries, and restaurants plan to stay open into the evening, inviting people to stroll, shop local, and make a full night of it. Carolers and other live entertainment are expected around the square and along Main Street, adding to the “old downtown at Christmas” feel that has become part of Mansfield’s holiday identity.
