🧺 Prairie Peddler prepares for two fall weekends
Published Thursday: The Prairie Peddler Festival returns near Butler from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday and Sunday, followed by another weekend October 3 and 4.
The outdoor marketplace features approximately 220 artisan booths, nearly 30 food vendors, live music, pony rides, magic shows and wagon rides. Admission is $12 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 through 12.
🚔 Cash and firearms seized during Mansfield search
Wednesday carryover: METRICH detectives executing a drug-related warrant at 41 Glenbeck Lane seized $84,510, a shotgun, a rifle and items described as consistent with drug trafficking.
No arrests or charges were announced. Investigators said charges would be presented after the continuing investigation is completed. Read the regional report.
🏗️ West Park demolition contract awarded
Wednesday carryover: The Richland County Land Bank awarded R&D Excavating of Crestline an $886,845 contract to demolish and clean up the former West Park Shopping Center at 1157 Park Avenue West.
The work will be funded through a $1 million Ohio Department of Development grant. The same company previously removed the former Westinghouse manufacturing complex on East Fifth Street.
🎓 Ohio State Mansfield welcomes larger freshman class
Wednesday announcement: Ohio State Mansfield reports that 470 new freshmen began classes this autumn, a 16% increase from last year and more than 40% growth over two years.
More than 60% applied specifically to the Mansfield campus. University officials credited growing interest partly to the Regional Campus Commitment, which covers tuition and mandatory fees for qualifying students from families earning less than $100,000. 🥕 Farmers market and mushroom hike fill Thursday evening
