🐕 Sterkel Dog Park celebrates new improvements
Published Tuesday: Community leaders gathered Monday to mark the completion of improvements at Sterkel Dog Park.
The collaborative project involved the Mansfield Rotary Club, the city and several local businesses. Additions include decorative metal silhouettes, play equipment, benches, trees and a drinking fountain. The dog park is part of the larger 20-acre Sterkel Community Park for All. 🚒 Madison firefighters pursue equipment grant
Monday carryover: Madison Township trustees authorized the fire department to seek grant funding for new airpacks and air bottles.
The department has 41 carbon-fiber bottles manufactured in 2016 and 2017. Each bottle costs about $2,000 and has a 15-year service life. Trustees also approved three part-time firefighter hires, subject to required screenings. Read the Madison Township report.
🚧 South Main Street ramp closure moves to Friday
Monday ODOT update: Rain postponed the scheduled closure of the South Main Street entrance ramp to northbound State Route 13.
The ramp is now expected to close Friday, September 25, for pavement repairs and reopen Sunday, September 27. The posted detour uses South Main Street, West Cook Road and U.S. Route 42. Lane closures continue on State Route 13 between Hanley Road and Chilton Avenue. See the revised ODOT schedule.
📚 Dolly Parton Day supports children’s literacy
Earlier announcement, looking ahead: Richland County will recognize Friday, September 25, as Dolly Parton Day and encourage residents to support the local Imagination Library.
A county proclamation ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 AM Thursday. The statewide “9 Two 5” campaign asks residents to consider donating $9.25. About $31 covers one child’s monthly books for a year. See the WMFD coverage or visit Ohio’s Imagination Library.
🐢 Animals, an author and an evening hike
Three local activities are scheduled today:
- Public Animal Feeding Day runs from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Gorman Nature Center. Visitors can help feed resident snakes, turtles and other animal ambassadors. See the event information.
- Author and investigative historian William J. Krejci visits Marvin Memorial Library in Shelby from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Books will be available for purchase and signing. View the Shelby event.
